The Oceandiva vessel is docked in East London, and will accept bookings from July.
London’s River Thames has been home to exciting moments. The river was the location for Frost Fairs up until the 19th century, a James Bond chase sequence, and a giant statue of Michael Jackson. Now, Oceandiva is calling the river home and opening a party boat – a carbon-neutral one, no less. The £25 million project will be floating away from July, and we’re keen to hop on board.
Located at King George V Dock in East London, Oceandiva is getting a £1.8 million makeover. Spanning three decks, it covers 2,625 square metres and can accommodate up to 400 people. The vessel is 86 metres long and 17 metres wide, and is one of the largest events spaces on the River Thames.
Whether static or sailing, Oceandiva will be able to host unique events on the River Thames. The state-of-the-art facilities include lighting, sound and video systems, plus space for set designs. At the moment, it is expected to be used for corporate events, but we’re hoping that it opens to the public. So far, the boat has been getting mixed reactions – some locals feel that it is an unattractive sight on the river, and others feel that it will add to the community.
Smart Group are behind the Oceandiva project. Running for more than 25 years, the group pride themselves on creating one-of-a-kind events. The group’s previous events range from the Grand Prix to Royal Ascot Village, and they have created events in prestigious locations from Kensington Palace to the Tower of London.
