The seasonal outpost of the independent arthouse will run until May 2024.
Cinema Akil is a name synonymous with cinematic disruption and cultural experiences, hosting everything from shorts and new releases to independent movies and foreign films in Alserkal Avenue since 2018. Now, the region's only independent arthouse has launched a seasonal outpost aptly named CA in 25hours at 25hours Hotel Dubai One Central.
Spanning 1,867 square feet, Cinema Akil in 25hours is divided into three distinct sections: the box office, the open cinema theatre, and a multipurpose retail and pop-up space. Beyond screening films, the new venue promises an electric array of entertainment options, including music events, talks and pop-up experiences. CA in 25hours boasts a theatre with a seating capacity of 72 and a total standing capacity of approximately 150 guests across all three zones, creating an intimate yet vibrant atmosphere for cinema enthusiasts and creatives alike.
The cinema is currently hosting screenings four times a week (Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays), with films typically commencing between 7:30pm and 8pm. Each season, with the first running until May 2024, will bring a diverse and carefully curated programme each month. Blending culture and modernity, Cinema Akil in 25hours boasts impressive high ceilings, creating a spacious and inviting atmosphere.
With adaptability, collaboration, and a nod to regional creativity in mind, CA in 25hours offers versatile seating options, including seats designed by Bethlehem-based Local Industries, and conversation benches by Beirut-based Post Industrial Crafts. Bookshelves, meanwhile, adorn its outer sections and display objects curated by Mumbai-based Jetsons Designs, seamlessly blending heritage with modernity. Cutting-edge technology has taken centre stage, with state-of-the-art laser projection and Dolby 7.1 cinema sound making the theatre compatible with industry-standard video and audio formats.
Setting the mood for an intimate and immersive journey, the space presents two distinct moods: one resembling a public installation mimicking a garden during the day. The other transforms into a back alley at night, complete with red lights and Cinema Akil's signature chandeliers. Bonus: all screenings at Cinema Akil in 25hours are free of charge during the ongoing season.
